We are a feminist-textile art collective and our works are dealing with the way in which society is organized in the public space. The focus of our work is public space as a web of patriarchal-capitalistic hierarchies. As female textile artists, we use traditionally female connotated materials and techniques which are most commonly utilized to produce useful things while hidden away in the context of your home. With our textile works we elude this logic and transfer textile materials and techniques into a new context.

Knitted Theory

During this public performance, theoretical approaches of feminist thinkers were turned into textile quotes. As precarious knowledge workers and artists in a delimited work environment, we see ourselves confronted with the dictate to market and optimize ourselves, and to productively put our personal resources to use on a daily basis. In the context of cognitive capitalism which is determined by immaterial work in the form of creative, intellectual, communicative, relational, and affective occupations, knowledge becomes key in so far as capitalism aims at turning all kinds of knowledge – be it artistic, philosophical, cultural, language or science related, into a commodity. In this logic of efficient production of meaning, we withdrew from its grip by working with texts haphazardly and associatively and thus removing the hierarchy between literary production and the performing arts, between the performer and the audience.
